Owned by William Foley, the CEO of one of the country's largest insurance companies, the Corner House Grille opened in late 2003 and immediately vaulted into the upper echelon of Whitefish's bustling culinary strata. The masculine dining room is one of the state's most elegant, with white tablecloths and a rich, romantic atmosphere. The food blends French and Continental influences, Asian sauces and other far-flung preparations, and regional ingredients, with terrific results. Representative dishes from the continually evolving menu include sesame mooshu duck and goat cheese tempura for starters, fennel-dusted Florida grouper with white corn sauce, and grilled buffalo hanger steak with truffle herb fries. The wine list and the desserts -- including a heavenly crème brûlée -- are excellent.
